CONCACAF Women’s U17 Qualifiers: Belize beat US Virgin Islands 3-0, finish 3rd in Group B

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The U17 Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT) finished their campaign in the 2025 CONCACAF Women’s U17 Qualifiers on a high note, securing third place in Group B with a resounding 3-0 victory over the US Virgin Islands on Friday evening at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.

The star of the match was undoubtedly Shanalee Smith, who delivered an incredible performance by scoring a hat-trick. Her outstanding display led Team Belize to their first win of the tournament.

Smith scored from a right-footed shot in the 12’, off a header in the 34’, and a from an outside shot in the 60’.

Belize had faced tough opponents in their previous matches, suffering a 2-0 defeat against Honduras on January 27 and another 2-0 loss to Trinidad and Tobago on January 29. These results had ended their chances of advancing to the next round, as only the group winners and the two best second-place teams from the six groups qualify for Round 2.

Despite these setbacks, Belize was determined to end their campaign on a positive note. Their match against the US Virgin Islands, who were also 0-2, provided the perfect opportunity to secure a victory and finish strong. The U17 BWNT dominated the match and secured a well-deserved win.

Honduras topped Group B with three wins after beating hosts Trinidad and Tobago 1-0 on Friday. Trinidad and Tobago will have to wait to see if they make it as one of the two best second-place teams.
