By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup knockout stage begins this weekend with four quarterfinal matchups across two U.S. cities. Eight teams remain in the hunt for regional glory, including perennial contenders Mexico and the United States, as well as rising challengers like Panama and Canada. Action is set for State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Panama vs. Honduras
State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona
Saturday, June 28 – 5:15 PM CST (4:15 PM Belize Time)
Panama arrive as Group C winners and tournament top scorers, led by red-hot striker Ismael Díaz. Los Canaleros are favored to advance, but Honduras—who edged Curaçao in their final group match—will look to spring a surprise. The Catrachos will rely on Jorge Álvarez and Luis Palma to lead the charge.
Mexico vs. Saudi Arabia
State Farm Stadium, Glendale, Arizona
Saturday, June 28 – 8:15 PM CST (7:15 PM Belize Time)
Mexico, unbeaten in group play, face guest invitees Saudi Arabia in the second Glendale quarterfinal. Favourites, El Tri as Mexico’s National Team is called, will count on Santiago Giménez and Edson Álvarez to dictate the tempo. Saudi Arabia will need a disciplined defensive effort and clinical finishing to pull off a major upset.
Canada vs. Guatemala
U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Sunday, June 29 – 2:00 PM CST (1:00 PM Belize Time)
Canada topped Group B with a perfect record and a +10 goal differential. Jonathan David and Tajon Buchanan have been in fine form, and the Canadians are expected to control possession. Guatemala, however, have shown grit and tactical discipline, and will look to frustrate and counter. This matchup could be closer than expected.
United States vs. Costa Rica
U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, Minnesota
Sunday, June 29 – 5:00 PM CST (4:00 PM Belize Time)
The USMNT, winners of Group D, face a rejuvenated Costa Rica side that edged out the Dominican Republic and Suriname to advance. The Americans boast depth and attacking firepower, while Costa Rica will lean on Joel Campbell and Celso Borges for leadership and experience. This clash of regional heavyweights promises fireworks.
Winners will advance to the semifinals on July 2 in Santa Clara and St. Louis. Matches tied after 90 minutes will go directly to penalty shootouts—no extra time in the quarters.
