By Aaron Humes: A virtual press conference scheduled for today at 4:30 p.m. with Commissioner of Police, Dr. A. Richard Rosado, has been cancelled due to “circumstances beyond our control.” This on the heels of the Prime Minister, yesterday, ordering Police Minister Kareem Musa and the ComPol to turn in the police report on the investigation into the kidnapping and extra-judicial extradition of Jospeh Budna to Guatemala by 5 p.m. Friday, today.

The conference was set to take place at this afternoon and would have provided an opportunity for the media to ask questions and seek clarification on the forthcoming internal investigation into the alleged abduction of Joseph Budna on August 22. Rosado has come under intense media and public scrutiny since footage of the kidnapping has leaked, which contradicts some of the ComPol’s comments to the media in his initial press conference addressing this situation, in which he asserted he had seen the footage and it showed no police officers were involved. The footage, however, has since shown a uniformed police officer approaching the kidnappers as they beat Budna, only to be waived off.

The press briefing has been rescheduled for Monday. The exact time and details will be shared in due course. The Commissioner of Police is expected to address the media and provide updates on the Budna matter as suspicion swirls over how high the alleged conspiracy went.

The cancellation comes after several media houses requested video footage from the night of the alleged abduction in Orange Walk Town. The Commissioner was reportedly due to submit a police report to Minister Kareem Musa today, which in turn would be submitted to the Prime Minister.

Musa has indicated he supports an independent investigation and the Prime Minister yesterday said he would agree to it if the report leads that way. All involved continue to deny official blessing or sanction for the abduction as Budna awaits a hearing in Guatemala and the expected continuation of his sentence for kidnapping and escape.
