By Zoila Palma: Over 30 community policing officers are taking part in a three-day Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention Training organized by the Family Support and Gender Affairs Department.
The Ministry of Home Affairs noted that the sessions aim to deepen officers’ understanding of gender dynamics, improve their ability to identify and address cases of gender-based violence, and ensure they are well-versed in the laws that govern their response to such sensitive matters.
The training is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the capacity of officers delivering the Police Crime Prevention and Education Program (PCPEP).
By equipping law enforcement personnel with the tools to better recognize and respond to GBV, the initiative seeks to promote safer communities and strengthen collaboration between the police and the public.
Community policing officers visit schools across Belize daily to speak with students on critical topics including drugs, crime, bullying, and gender-based violence.
With this new training, they will be better prepared to educate, support, and positively influence young people.
