By Zoila Palma: Thirty-four community policing officers from across Belize are taking part in a three-day training organized by the Family Support and Gender Affairs Department, aimed at enhancing their understanding of gender issues and strengthening their response to gender-based violence.
Commander of Community Policing, ACP Howell Gillett, explained that the training focuses on gender awareness, laws related to gender-based violence, and effective community engagement.
The initiative also supports officers in delivering the Police Crime Prevention and Education Program (PCPEP) more effectively in schools and communities.
Gillett noted that officers who regularly visit schools to discuss topics such as drugs, bullying, crime, and gangs will now be better equipped to promote respect, empathy, and positive behavioral change.
