Common-law husband accused of raping partner’s teenage daughters in Stann Creek District

By Aaron Humes: One man has been detained pending investigation of the alleged rape of teenage sisters.

According to police, a female from Santa Cruz village informed them that she was at home when she saw her neighbor, a mother of two female daughters aged 12 and 13, walking to church with only one of her daughters, the twelve-year-old. She then went to their house to check on the other daughter and found the front door of the house locked.

She observed a man inside known to her as the female minor’s mother’s common-law husband, completely nude. She shouted at him and then saw him jump through a window and the 13-year-old run out of the house.

On Sunday morning, the mother along with the two girls was located. All persons were escorted to the Independence station. Both female minors were escorted to the Independence Polyclinic, where a medical officer certified that both minors were carnally known. Statements were recorded from the mother and both female minors in the presence of a social worker, leading to the detention of the common-law husband.
