By Breaking Belize News Staff: Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado has revealed that intelligence gathered by investigators indicates that Friday’s quadruple murder along the Coastal Plain Highway resulted from an internal feud within a criminal gang faction.
Speaking during Sunday’s emergency police briefing, Rosado provided the clearest indication yet of what investigators believe motivated the October 30 massacre.
The attack claimed the lives of 33-year-old Lloyd Leslie, 23-year-old Robert Gladden, 23-year-old Dayton Palacio and 16-year-old David Usher.
The four were travelling in a red Ford Escape when they were ambushed by gunmen along the Coastal Plain Highway.
Three victims died at the scene, while Palacio subsequently succumbed to his injuries at the Southern Regional Hospital.
As previously reported by Breaking Belize News, Gladden and Palacio had previously been charged alongside 19-year-old Dodrick Madrill in a February 2025 firearm and ammunition case.
Madrill was murdered on Freedom Street in Belize City just one day before the highway massacre.
The three men had appeared in court together after police discovered an unlicensed 9mm pistol and 13 live rounds of ammunition inside a Freedom Street residence.
Madrill pleaded guilty and accepted responsibility for the weapon, while Gladden and Palacio pleaded not guilty.
Rosado explained that internal disputes involving factions within the same gang have become increasingly difficult for police to contain.
His latest disclosure strengthens the possibility that the recent murders form part of a broader internal gang conflict, although investigators have not publicly established that all the killings were directly connected.
Police have not announced charges in connection with the quadruple murder.
