By Aaron Humes: Following a meeting with high-level officials including Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams met the press this afternoon saying that Belizeans need not be fearful, only cautious of the situation across the border in Chetumal.
Additional resources have been put into the city following the killing of a senior Police officer a few days ago, but there is no indication that any Belizeans are involved, or that the violence will cross the border into the Commercial Free Zone.
Nonetheless, authorities are on alert and additional funding will be sought from Government for the long term, Williams said.
Mexican authorities remain in touch pending any security concerns but Belizeans are simply asked to keep an eye out when doing business in the city for the time being.
