By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Monday, Tracy Panton and her supporters arrived at the UDP headquarters in Belize City with the intent of occupying the offices and continuing the work of the party.
However, there were clashes between her supporters and those loyal to Shyne Barrow.
Heavy police presence was observed as they entered the bottom part of the building and replaced the locks.
Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has reiterated that the police will not be used as pawns amidst their infighting.
However, he is hopeful that this matter be taken to the courts.
“So we will just hold forth and be as neutral as we can. One might not like Shyne, but the truth is he is the constitutionally elected leader of the opposition. As you know, when there is House meeting, he is the one who holds that position.
And so we will not take sides for either sides, but try and remain as neutral as we can. We are not going to use no force on nobody. I would hope that the matter can be taken before the court and for the court to look at the matter and make a determination so we know where to go from there,” the Commissioner said.
Compol Williams says that he has advised Barrow to take the matter to court.
