By Zoila Palma: The Belize Police Department and Commissioner of Police Richard Rosado is extending congratulations to 3 police officers who successfully completed the Special Operations Close Combat Course (SOCCC).
Following 4 months of intense training, the officers covered a range of tactical skills.
SOCCC is held by the Belize Defence Force (BDF), through their Special Operations & Tactics Unit from Price Barracks, Ladyville, and designed to produce entry level special operations forces to join special tactics units throughout Belize’s uniformed services.
It is open to candidates from BDF, Belize Coast Guard (BCG) and the Belize Police Department (BPD), who must undergo a week-long selection program to identify suitable candidates.
The BPD noted that 18 police officers were among the over 100 applicants that attempted to join SOCCC; only 17 candidates were selected.
Of these, 12 successfully graduated on 4 June, 2026, in a closing ceremony attended by Commander Belize Defence Force, Brigadier General Anthony Velasquez, the Commissioner of Police Dr A Richard Rosado and other senior command of the 3 Security Forces.
The SOCCC covered rules of engagement, map reading, land navigation, first Aid, tactical communication, unarmed combat, aquatic survivability, combat orders, jungle patrol and survival among others.
COMPOL Rosado congratulated DC Albert Choc, PC Tyrell Rowley, PC Edwardo Pow on their momentous achievement.
“These police officers now stand among the strongest and most resilient—individuals who have conquered every obstacle, met every challenge head-on, and never gave up. Their remarkable achievement is a shining testament to their unwavering perseverance, fierce determination, and unrelenting drive. They now join a distinguished and elite community, not just in Belize, but across the Caribbean, and we proudly honour their place among our very best,” the BPD said.
