Commissioner of Police confirms Belmopan home shot up; says police cannot go easy on criminals

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, confirmed late on Tuesday night reports that his Belmopan home had been shot at.

“A short while ago I was informed by my son that shots were fired at my house in Belmopan,” Williams confirmed on Facebook. “I can confirm that I am ok. I just arrived in New Yorke where I’ll be attending the UN Chiefs of Police conference. I am therefore ok and my son who was at home is also ok.”

“The act of shooting at my home is a clear example why as a society we cannot go easy on these criminals who believe that they can run our streets and keep our law abiding citizens hostage with impunity. My mandate as the Commissioner of Police remains clear, and that is to keep the people of our country safe. This is even if my own safety is at risk. I therefore will not be perturbed by the coward acts of those who committed this reprehensible act. The police are investigating and will do everything within our power to find those responsible and bring them to justice,” Williams said in his statement.

Police are investigating the matter.
