Commissioner of Police aware of Cartel operatives in Belize

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: We’ve long watched movies and series depicting the sanguineous lifestyle of the Mexican cartel.

Belizean transmigrantes have been victims of numerous robberies while traversing Mexico.

Their stories revealed the organized crime by the Mexican cartels, the tolls that you must pay to live and pass through and the horrifying turf operated by armed gunmen, like a scene from La Reina del Sur.

And now, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams have confirmed that Belizean authorities are aware of cartel operatives in Belize.

“ We know that we do have operatives in Belize who are on the side of the cartels, we know that, and I’m not going to into details in terms of our operational strategies but certainly as a part thereof is to make sure we target those persons we believe are operating in Belize for the cartels, and I’ll leave it at that,” Williams said.

With relation to the murder of Johnny Arana, the Commissioner says that it is believed to be due to drug distribution in Corozal but didn’t confirm if its narco related.
