Coast Guard rescues four after vessel runs aground on reef

By Aaron Humes: On Saturday night, the Belize Coast Guard conducted a rescue operation for passengers and crew of the vessel “THE WET SPOT,” which was reported in distress by the Honduran Navy. The coordinated effort resulted in the rescue of three U.S. nationals and one Mexican.

The vessel, which departed Placencia on November 21 en route to Roatan, Honduras, never arrived at its destination. Following a search near Gladden Split, the Honduran Navy located the vessel and notified the Belize Coast Guard, prompting the deployment of two rescue units.

All four individuals on board were found safe, and the vessel was observed grounded on the reef. The rescued persons are Captain Richard Hagen, Thyman H. Van Waveren, Caprise Shaun Van Waveren, and Mexican Nadia Aracely Torres Martinez.
