By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City Coast Guard officer accused of assaulting the mother of his child during a domestic dispute was granted bail on Friday after pleading not guilty to a charge of harm.
Darien Kashief Anderson, 27, appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in Court #3, where he was read a single charge of harm arising from allegations made by his former partner.
According to court proceedings, Anderson has been in custody since New Year’s Eve following a complaint that an uninvited visit to his ex’s home escalated into violence. When given an opportunity to speak in court, the Magistrate advised Anderson that, having pleaded not guilty, he was not required to make any statement at this stage so as not to incriminate himself.
With no objection from the prosecution, Anderson was granted bail in the sum of $1,000, plus one surety of the same amount. As conditions of bail, he must remain at least 100 yards away from the virtual complainant and is prohibited from contacting or interfering with her or any prosecution witnesses. Breach of these conditions could result in revocation of bail. The matter is adjourned to February 16, 2026.
Facts of the case allege that on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, the woman reported to the Domestic Violence Unit that Anderson arrived at her home uninvited around 9:40 a.m., demanding that she bring their child outside. Smith said she initially refused, explaining that the child was ill, but went outside after Anderson continued shouting her name.
She further alleged that during a verbal exchange, Anderson forcefully flung open his car door, striking her in the chest and abdomen. She reported that he then exited the vehicle, pushed her, punched her multiple times in the face, and later choked her on two separate occasions—once inside her apartment and again as she attempted to close the door behind him.
Police said the woman sustained visible injuries, including bruising under her right eye, burst lips, and a scratch on her chin. A medical examination classified her injuries as harm.
Investigators stated that Anderson later reported to the Gender-Based Violence Response and Investigative Unit, where he was informed of the complaint and subsequently charged.
