By Horace Palacio: Belize is in for a damp and breezy Saturday as moist conditions settle over the country. Expect mostly cloudy skies throughout the day, punctuated by scattered showers or periods of light rain.
While this may disrupt outdoor plans, temperatures will remain warm, making it ideal for cozy indoor activities. Coastal areas can anticipate highs of 80°F (27°C) with lows dipping to a comfortable 73°F (23°C). Further inland, temperatures will peak at 83°F (28°C) before falling to 68°F (20°C) in the evening. Those in the hills will experience slightly cooler conditions, with highs of 70°F (21°C) and lows of 60°F (16°C).
However, the National Meteorological Service has issued a small craft caution for those venturing out on the water. East-northeast winds blowing at 10-20 knots will churn up moderate to rough seas, with waves potentially reaching heights of 5-7 feet. Small craft operators are urged to exercise extra caution, particularly in areas experiencing northeasterly swells where conditions could be even rougher.
Despite the unsettled marine conditions, there’s good news on the horizon. The showers are predicted to decrease by Sunday night, allowing for a more pleasant end to the weekend. So, while Saturday may be best spent indoors, Belizeans can look forward to clearer skies and calmer seas in the coming days.
