Clay Uter, alias Clay Monsanto, shot and killed in yard in Lake I

By Aaron Humes: Barely 48 hours after a state of emergency was implemented across most of Southside Belize City, a murder was recorded in the Lake Independence area.

The victim has been identified as Clay Uter, 52, better known as Clay Monsanto, a former street figure who had recently returned to Belize from the United States.

According to police, Uter/Monsanto and others were socializing in a yard on McKenzie Street off McKay Boulevard just after 4 p.m. when a man not known to them jumped the fence, carrying a firearm, and began chasing Uter/Monsanto. He opened fire and caught his target several times, before fleeing on a motorcycle.

Monsanto was pronounced dead at hospital and police investigations into his murder continue.
