Press Release
The Firearms and Ammunition Control Board (FACB) wishes to inform all stakeholders and members of the public that, pursuant to recent legislative amendments, the responsibility for the approval and licensing of unarmed security guards remains vested with the Commissioner of Police.
The Private Security and Investigation Services (Control) (Amendment) Act, 2024, came into effect to delineate the responsibilities of key regulatory bodies in the security sector. Under this amended law:
- The FACB is now the sole authority responsible for the licensing and regulation of firearms held or used by private security companies and armed security personnel.
- The Commissioner of Police, however, retains full authority over the vetting, licensing, and approval of unarmed security guards.
As a result, the FACB has no jurisdiction to process applications relating to unarmed security personnel. Any such applications received by the FACB have been formally forwarded to the Office of the Commissioner of Police for appropriate action.
We advise all private security companies and individuals seeking approval to serve as unarmed guards to submit their applications directly to the Belize Police Department, in accordance with the relevant procedures under the Private Security and Investigation Services (Control) Act, Chapter 138:01 of the Laws of Belize.
The FACB remains committed to ensuring compliance with the law and promoting public safety through the responsible management of firearm licensing. We thank all applicants and stakeholders for their cooperation and understanding.
