By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Church Senator Louis M. Wade Jr. has strongly criticized the Government of Belize for what he describes as hostility toward Israel, while maintaining diplomatic and economic ties with other nations engaged in conflict or territorial disputes.
In a social media post, Wade contrasted Belize’s relationships with countries such as Venezuela, China, Russia, Ukraine, and Guatemala, nations facing disputes or conflicts where citizens remain welcomed in Belize and embassies continue to function without disruption. He questioned why Belize treats Guatemalans with respect despite territorial incursions, yet appears increasingly unfriendly toward Israel.
Wade argued that the government’s recent posture, including openness to a petition to remove the visa waiver for Israeli passport holders and the welcoming of a Palestinian Ambassador, reflects unfair treatment of Israelis and Jews. “To welcome the people and governments of all these other warring states, yet to seek to punish every Jew and Israeli for the decisions of its government, is nothing less than hatred of an entire race of people. This is antisemitism. This is racism,” Wade wrote.
The debate comes after Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca confirmed he is willing to take the petition launched by the solidarity group Liberation 9/21 to the Cabinet for review. The petition calls for the removal of the visa waiver for Israelis.
As Church Senator, Wade emphasized the need for Belize’s foreign policy to align with principles of fairness, justice, and peace, rather than what could be seen as discriminatory or politically one-sided.
