Church Senator lauds Catholic schools for decision on HPV vaccine; calls for informed consent for parents

By Zoila Palma:  Church Senator Louis Wade Jr. has lauded the Roman Catholic School system for their decision to not permit HPV vaccine programs on its school grounds.

“Well done, Roman Catholic School system. The Ministry of Health needs to convince PARENTS directly, and not use your schools as a PROXY.

If you allow this what will be next?

Children do not belong to the State nor the school system, they belong to parents,” Wade said.

Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard says that all parents receive a consent form that must be signed for vaccinations to be performed on their children.

However, Wade said that “consent and informed consent are two different things.”

Following the decision by the Catholic management, parents on social media have taken on mixed views on the HPV vaccination in schools with some parents arguing that health must be separate from religion and others agreeing with the decision of the Catholic management.
