By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty-one-year-old Belmopan resident Christy Guzman, accused of abetment to murder in connection with the recent shooting death of her aunt’s husband, Wilson Hernandez, has been granted High Court bail in the sum of $9,000. The decision came today before Justice Nigel Pilgrim.
Attorney Hurl Hamilton successfully argued for Guzman’s release. While the prosecution in the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court had initially opposed bail on the grounds that she was a flight risk, the Crown, representing the DPP’s office, raised no objection during today’s High Court hearing.
Bail was granted with strict conditions. Guzman must report to the Belmopan Police Station twice weekly—every Monday and Friday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.—surrender all travel documents, refrain from contacting witnesses, and remain in Belize unless granted court approval to leave. She must also avoid being charged with any further offenses while on bail.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for November 7, 2025, at the Belmopan Magistrate’s Court.
