By Zoila Palma: Christians in Belize and across the globe are mourning the death of U.S. conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot dead Wednesday during a campus visit to Utah Valley University.
His killing has been described by faith leaders and supporters as both a tragedy and an attack on Christian conviction.
In Belize, Senator Louis Wade Jr. reflected on Kirk’s commitment despite danger, stating: “We prayed for you. But you knew the call and you knew the danger. RIP. Yet you spoke Truth in spite of the Hate.”
Pastor Scott Stirm added, “I prayed when he was shot yesterday. I wept when he died… thinking of how his wife & kids are feeling. How his parents are feeling. His dear friends.”
Across the United States, tributes poured in from Christian leaders, including Franklin Graham, who said, “What a tragedy… Pray for his wife Erika, their two young children, and all of their family. It’s in these moments of darkness that we need to stand on the Scripture, ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.’”
Conservative groups also paid tribute.
The Heritage Foundation said Kirk’s death must serve as “a turning point for our country,” while Alliance Defending Freedom International called the shooting “a heinous murder.”
Pastors and evangelists such as Greg Laurie and Samuel Rodriguez emphasized his legacy as a courageous Christian voice, while international tributes—from Finland’s Päivi Räsänen to UK campaigners—framed the killing as a blow to free speech and open debate.
