By Breaking Belize News Staff: Ziuhuan Chen, 32, of Freetown Road, Belize City, was released on bail on Friday after being charged with two traffic offenses. Chen, the owner of a business on Freetown Road, was accused of running a red light and failing to provide a blood specimen.
On Friday, Chen was stopped at the intersection of Freetown Road and Douglas Jones Street for allegedly running a red light. He also failed to provide a blood specimen when requested by police. Chen claimed he did not understand the officer and was denied a translator.
In court, Prosecutor Sgt. Christopher Smith withdrew the charge of failing to produce a driver’s license after Chen’s translator, the Chairman of the Chinese Association, explained it was in his impounded vehicle.
Chen pleaded not guilty to the remaining charges. Bail was set at $500, which Chen met. He is scheduled to return to court on September 12, 2024.
