By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Orange Walk Football Association (OWFA) 2024-2025 Closing Championship continued Friday night, with reigning champions Yo Creek United making a bold statement in their opening match, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over Guinea Grass FC at the Louisiana Football Field.
The night was scheduled to feature two matches, but the first game did not take place, as LA Tigers claimed a win by default over San Jose FC. For the Tigers, this marked their first victory in the current competition. This set the stage for Yo Creek United’s impressive performance which led them to momentarily tie with leaders San Jose Pumas at 10 points.
Liam Reyes was the star of the night, finding the net twice in quick succession in the 37th and 42nd minutes to give his side a comfortable lead. Juan Diaz sealed the win in the 52nd minute, ensuring Yo Creek United’s victory.
To allow players and fans to support Progresso FC in their crucial Premier League of Belize (PLB) semifinal clash against Verdes FC on Sunday, the OWFA has adjusted its match schedule this weekend. That’s the reason the weekend matches kick off Friday night. They continue Saturday night at Louisiana Football Field and Sunday morning at People’s Stadium.

PLB Semifinal
Attractive entrance fee for Sunday’s matches
Fans attending the 1st Division games at People’s Stadium on Sunday will pay an entrance fee of $10, which also grants them access to the highly anticipated Progresso vs. Verdes PLB semifinal. However, those arriving after 2:00 p.m. will need to pay the standard $15 entrance fee.
As the tournament intensifies, excitement continues to build for both OWFA and PLB matches. While Progresso FC fight for a spot in the national finals, the local tournament remains highly competitive.
