By Aaron Humes: Breaking Belize News has confirmed that Ministry of Transport Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Gilroy Middleton has resigned and demits office next week. He is returning to lecture at the University of Belize, where he was working prior to Government service.
Minister of Youth, Sports and Transport Rodwell Ferguson is thus forced to change CEOs for a fourth time since taking office in November 2020. Minister Ferguson has been assigned three CEOs -Marconi Leal Junior, Adele Catzim and Middleton, the former two of whom moved laterally to the Ministry of Human Development.
So is the Minister the problem? Ferguson denied it when speaking to Channel 5 News today, saying he shared a cordial and productive relationship with Dr Middleton: “The CEO and myself have a very good relationship and there was an offering for him at the University of Belize and he believes that the package was extremely excellent, especially with whatever comes with the package. He lives in Belize City and so said, “Minister, it is best that I live in Belize City and work in Belize City.” As CEO, he use to commute from Belmopan to Belize City. So he chose to go back to Belize City and that’s it.”
A replacement is in the hands of the Prime Minister according to Ferguson, who says department heads remain in place and the Ministry functions as per normal until the new CEO is identified. The Prime Minister is presently out of country.
