By Rubén Morales Iglesias: After a 3-0 win over Nicaragua on opening day, the Belize Men’s National Volleyball Team will face Costa Rica on Saturday, October 12, at 3:00 pm in the AFECAVOL – XX Campeonato Centroamericano Sub-21 Masculino in Chitré, Panama.
Belize controlled the pace of the game, winning 25-11, 25-21, and 29-27 against Nicaragua on Friday at the Papa Francisco Gymnasium, while Costa Rica did not see action on opening day.
In other games on Friday, Guatemala opened with a 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-22) win over El Salvador, while Panama beat Honduras 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-20).
Belize outplayed Nicaragua in attacking (40-29), blocking (8-5), and serving (8-0), but committed more errors (29-23).
Kaelen Ingram led the Belize attack, racking up 26 points (22 attacks, 3 blocks, and one ace). Eleazar Mejía added 13 points, and Kyron Sutherland contributed nine.
With the 3-0 victories, Panama, Belize, and Guatemala all totaled five points. The other countries don’t have any points yet.
In the other games on Saturday, Guatemala will face Honduras at 4:30 pm, while Panama will host El Salvador at 7:00 pm.
