By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🏐🇧🇿 Belize’s Women’s National Volleyball Team are set to meet archrivals Guatemala Tuesday at midday in a historic bronze medal match at the XII Juegos Centroamericanos. This marks the first time Belize have reached the medal round in women’s volleyball at the Central American Games — a great achievement for the team and the country.

Belize advanced to the semi-finals after topping Group B with three consecutive victories. They opened their campaign on Friday with a 3–1 win over Honduras (27–25, 25–17, 24–26, 25–23), followed by a thrilling five-set triumph over Guatemala on Saturday (23–25, 25–22, 25–21, 25–27, 15–12). On Sunday, they completed the group phase with a confident 3–0 sweep of Panama (25–23, 25–20, 25–18), securing their place in the knockout round as group leaders.

In Monday’s semi-final, Belize battled valiantly but were defeated 3–1 by Nicaragua (25–19, 25–14, 22–25, 25–18) at the Gimnasio Teodoro Palacios Flores. The third set saw a spirited rally led by Nelissa Ramírez and Gareth Bruce, while libero Kaleigh Cardinez anchored the defence with poise and tenacity.

Now, Belize turn their attention to the bronze medal match — a rematch against Guatemala, whom they overcame in group play. With confidence and momentum on their side, they will be aiming to repeat that performance and secure Belize’s first volleyball medal at the Central American Games.

🏐 Today’s Medal Matches – Tuesday, October 21, 2025

  • 🥉 Women’s Bronze: Belize v Guatemala – Midday
  • 🥇 Women’s Gold: Nicaragua v Costa Rica – 2:00 p.m.
  • 🥉 Men’s Bronze: Belize v Panama – 6:00 p.m.

On the men’s side, Belize’s national team also made history by reaching the semi-finals for the first time since 1997. However, they were defeated 3–0 by Nicaragua (25–21, 25–21, 25–21) on Monday night. The men will now meet Panama this evening at 6:00 pm in their own bronze medal match, hoping to cap off a strong tournament run with a place on the podium.

Elsewhere, El Salvador secured fifth place in the women’s championship with a 3–2 win over Honduras, who now face Panama for sixth and seventh.
