By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🇧🇿🥉 Belize’s medal count at the XII Central American Games rose to six on Saturday evening, thanks to a strong performance by Selvani Yasmin Leiva in billiards (8 Ball), held in Guatemala City.

Leiva’s bronze medal marked Belize’s first podium finish in cue sports at the regional Games, adding depth to the country’s growing medal portfolio. Her achievement followed a string of successes earlier in the day, including two canoeing bronzes and a track medal, underscoring Belize’s versatility across disciplines.

Competing with poise and precision, Leiva advanced through the tournament bracket to secure third place, demonstrating the competitive edge of Belize’s billiards athletes on the regional stage.

Her bronze joined the following medals earned by Team Belize up to Saturday:

  • 🥉 Ruth Cruz & Francisca Cruz-Pfaender – Bronze in Women’s K2 500m Canoe Sprint
  • 🥉 Cristian Lopez – Bronze in Men’s K1 200m Canoe Sprint
  • 🥈 Nyasha Harris – Silver in Women’s 100 Metres
  • 🥉 Brandon Jones – Bronze in Men’s Triple Jump
  • 🥉 Belize Women’s National Volleyball Team – Bronze with a 3–1 win over Guatemala

With six medals secured — two in athletics, three in canoeing, and one in billiards — Belize’s delegation continued to shine across multiple venues in Guatemala City, Quetzaltenango, and Petén.

And on Sunday, Belize added two more medals in canoeing, bringing the national tally to eight:

  • 🥈 Andres Cabb & Cristian Lopez – Silver in Men’s K2 1000m Canoe Sprint
  • 🥉 Andres Cabb – Bronze in Men’s K1 1000m Canoe Sprint

Leiva’s bronze not only added to the national count but also highlighted the expanding reach of Belizean talent in less traditional sports. As the Games continue, Belize remained active in softball, basketball, beach volleyball, rugby, sailing, and additional canoeing events.
