Central American Games: Selvani Leiva, Karla Gillett earn Belize bronze in Women’s 8-Ball Team Billiards

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Selvani Yasmin Leiva and Karla Yesenia Gillett have earned Belize another bronze medal at the Central American Games, this time in the Women’s 8-Ball Team billiards competition. Their achievement adds to Belize’s medal count and highlights the strength of the country’s female cueists.

Leiva, who had already secured bronze in the 8-Ball Individual event, teamed up with Gillett to deliver a resilient performance that placed them among the top three teams. The final saw Guatemala defeat Panama 6–3 to claim gold, but Belize’s earlier rounds ensured a well-deserved spot on the podium.

The official results confirmed the standings:

• 1st Place: Astrid Santos & Daniela Catalana (Guatemala)
• 2nd Place: Karina Castillo & Leidy Castillero (Panama)
• 3rd Place: Selvani Leiva & Karla Gillett (Belize)
• 3rd Place: Maritza Bravo & Karen García (Nicaragua)

This marks the fifth medal for Belize in billiards—one more than canoeing—and reflects the sport’s rising prominence within the national delegation. With medals across both men’s and women’s categories, Belize’s billiards athletes continue to demonstrate precision, poise, and pride on the regional stage.
