By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Though Belize’s men’s volleyball team narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the XII Central American Games, two standout players—Francis Hauze and Kyron Sutherland—closed the tournament with individual accolades that reflect their exceptional performances on the court.

Hauze was named the tournament’s 2nd Best Spiker, while Sutherland earned the title of 2nd Best Blocker, joining an elite list of regional honourees following the conclusion of the Games in Guatemala City.

The awards were announced after Belize’s hard-fought bronze medal match against Panama, which ended in a five-set thriller: 2–3 (25–27, 25–23, 22–25, 25–21, 12–15). Hauze led all scorers with 27 points, showcasing his attacking prowess and consistency under pressure. Sutherland anchored Belize’s net defense, contributing key blocks throughout the tournament and helping the team reach its first semifinal in 28 years.
