By Rubén Morales Iglesias: 🇧🇿 Belize’s Men’s Volleyball Team have earned a historic berth in the final four of the Central American Games, overcoming El Salvador in four sets to secure their first semifinal appearance since 1997.

The 3–1 victory (23–25, 25–21, 25–16, 25–18) not only sealed second place in Group B but also reignited national pride, as Belize return to medal contention nearly three decades after claiming bronze in their only previous podium finish.

After conceding the opening set, Belize regrouped with renewed intensity. Kaelen Ingram orchestrated the turnaround with commanding play, while Eleazar Mejía delivered a decisive spike to close the second frame. The third and fourth sets saw Belize assert full control, with Kyron Sutherland anchoring the net and both Mejía and Ingram applying pressure from the service line.

Statistically, Belize outperformed El Salvador in key areas: attacking (58–52), blocking (11–10), and serving (7–0). They also kept errors in check, committing 18 to El Salvador’s 22.

Ingram and Francis Hauze led Belize’s scoring with 22 and 21 points respectively. El Salvador’s Abner Cano topped the match with 23 points, supported by Rodrigo Chávez with 15.

“Having both our national teams reach the final rounds is a major step forward,” said Head Coach Albert Humes, reflecting on the achievement as Belize’s Women’s Team also advanced to the semifinals after an unbeaten three-game run that included a historic victory over hosts Guatemala.

“El Salvador have always tested us, but today our players showed grit and unity. They gave everything for Belize.”

Ingram, who led the charge, added: “We played with heart. The energy was ours from the start. We trusted each other and that belief carried us through.”

Belize now prepare to face Group A winners Nicaragua in the semifinals on Monday at 8:00 pm, with momentum and history on their side. Costa Rica, who topped Group B, will battle Group A’s second-place team, Panama, at 6:00 pm.
