For the first time in the history of Belize’s participation at the Central American Games, the Belize Women’s National Volleyball Team have advanced to the semifinals—and they’re not done yet.
After sweeping Panama 3–0 (25–23, 25–20, 25–18) on Sunday, Belize topped Group B with a flawless 3–0 record, setting up a semifinal showdown against Nicaragua, the second-place finishers from Group A. The match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today at the Gimnasio Teodoro Palacios Flores in Guatemala City.
Belize’s path to the semifinals has been nothing short of inspiring. They opened the tournament with a 3–1 win over Honduras on Friday, followed by a thrilling five-set victory over hosts Guatemala on Saturday (23–25, 25–22, 25–21, 25–27, 15–12), and capped group play with Sunday’s dominant performance against Panama.
Nelissa Ramirez led the scoring against Panama with 15 points, while Herdie Castillo and Shantell Arnold have also been standout performers throughout the tournament.

“Congratulations to Team Belize on advancing to the semifinals for the first time in the history of Belize’s participation in the Central American Games! Best of luck Team Belize! 
” Belize Volleyball said in celebrating the achievement.
In the other semifinal, Group A leaders Costa Rica will take on Guatemala, who finished second in Group B behind Belize.
With momentum, unity, and national pride on their side, Belize now look to extend their historic run and secure a place in the gold medal match. All eyes will be on the court at 2:00 p.m. as Team Belize continues to make history.
Meanwhile, the Belize Men’s Volleyball Team have also advanced to the semifinals. This marks their second time doing so—the first was 28 years ago, in 1997, when they earned the bronze medal. The Belize Men’s Volleyball Team will face Nicaragua at 8:00 pm in the final game of the day.
