By Rubén Morales Iglesias: BELIZE ! Brandon Jones delivered a clutch performance for Belize on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, securing the bronze medal in the Men’s Triple Jump at the 12th Central American Games in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. His podium finish marks Belize’s third medal at this year’s regional competition, following Nyasha Harris’ silver in the Women’s 100 Metres and the Women’s Volleyball Team’s bronze earlier this week.

Competing at 7,982 feet above sea level, Jones demonstrated both technical precision and mental fortitude in a tightly contested triple jump final. His best leap measured 15.49 metres, placing him third behind El Salvador’s Fernando Reyes, who claimed gold with 15.78 metres, and Honduras’ Jason Castro, who secured silver at 15.76 metres. Panama’s Alonso Gaitán finished just off the podium in fourth with a jump of 15.26 metres.

Jones’ medal is a significant achievement in his athletic journey. Known primarily for his sprinting prowess—he placed fourth in the 100m and was a 200m finalist at the 2025 CADICA Senior Championships—Jones has steadily expanded his versatility in field events. His bronze in Quetzaltenango is just one of many international medals he has won for Belize.

Belize’s athletics delegation, which includes sprinters Kamron Gentle and Nyasha Harris, high jumper Tamia Bennett, and Jones himself, is led by Head Coach Frederick Evans and Head of Delegation Jada Parchue.

Earlier in the Games, Harris made headlines by sprinting to silver in the Women’s 100 Metres final with a time of 11.86 seconds, becoming Belize’s first medallist in Quetzaltenango. Her performance set the tone for the team’s campaign and inspired fellow athletes to rise to the occasion.

With three medals now secured—silver in athletics, bronze in volleyball, and bronze in triple jump—Belize’s contingent continues to demonstrate resilience and competitive spirit on the regional stage. The high-altitude conditions in Quetzaltenango have posed challenges across events, but Jones’ and Harris’ achievements reflect the team’s preparation and determination.

The Central American Games continue through the week, with Belizean athletes aiming to build on their momentum and bring home more medals for the Jewel.
