By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The three Cayo District Premier League of Belize clubs, Verdes, Benque Viejo United, Club Deportivo Benque (Police Benque), along with a Cayo West selection, are playing in a one-day preseason Western Championship, on Saturday, January 6, at the Edmund Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen.
The Cayo West Selection comprises Benque Area First Division players.
Though Belmopan is geo-politically within the Cayo District, under the Football Federation of Belize, Belmopan and the village surrounding, like Roaring Creek and Camalote, form a separate district.
The top three teams in the Western Championship, organized through the office of National Sports Council Deputy Director Marvin Ottley, will earn $3000, $2000, and $1000 respectively.
Verdes will open the quadrangular against the Cayo West Selection at 4:00 pm. Benque Viejo United will then face Club Deportivo Benque.
The losing teams play for third place and the winners play the final that same day. A 30-minute rest break will be given between games two and three.
Games will play for 70 minutes with 35 minutes periods. Teams will have ten-minute breaks between the halves.
The matches will be officiated by referees from the FFB Referees Department.
Entrance will be $10 for adults. Children 13 and under enter free.
