By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On August 11, 2024, Julius Espat, the esteemed Area Representative for Cayo South received a resounding endorsement to continue serving his constituency in the upcoming 2025 General Elections.
The show of support was evident as residents and party members gathered to affirm their confidence in Espat’s leadership.
Prime Minister John Briceño, addressing the crowd at the endorsement convention, expressed his readiness for the upcoming electoral challenge.
“The Party gathered for Hon. Julius Espat’s Cayo South endorsement convention. The work will continue with Julius Espat – PUP territory… PUP strong, “Briceño stated.
Espat, who serves as the Minister of Infrastructure Development and Housing, took the opportunity to express his gratitude to his supporters.
He pledged to persist in his efforts to advance the needs of Cayo South and Belize.
And while he is honored to serve, he indicated that 2025 may be his last term.
“The party decided that they wanted all area reps to throw in their names and open it up. That was a time frame, was it a month, two months? Two months and nobody submitted their name in poor little Cayo South so you know, I was the only one left and we will continue with pride to serve our people. So to me it’s an honor.
Two times in opposition, one time in government, hopefully one more time, I don’t think it will be more than one more time. The grey hairs are coming out, the stress on the family is immense, the love and dedication and passion that I have takes a bit out of you but I don’t do it anyway else or any other way,” Espat told 7News Belize.
“I am given a responsibility and I will do it to the best of my ability and when I can’t do it anymore, I’ll mentor somebody else to move on, that’s what we have to do. But I’m not a career politician, I think one more shot and that will be enough for me,” Espat added.
The Cayo South giant has served 3 terms and is now going for a 4th term in 2025.
