Caye Caulker man remanded after allegedly breaking into home robbing owner at knifepoint and later being found with crack

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 41-year-old Caye Caulker resident is behind bars after being arraigned on multiple criminal charges, including burglary and aggravated assault with a knife, despite being granted bail.

Jerome Jermaibe Jorgenson, a construction worker of North Caye Caulker, appeared unrepresented on Monday afternoon before a Magistrate in Court #3, where he was read several charges: burglary, aggravated assault with a knife, possession of controlled drugs, and possession of an article with a blade.

The allegations are that on Friday, April 24, 2026, Jorgenson entered a home as a trespasser and stole items including an Air Pod device with a case valued at $210, a $10 kitchen knife, and a pink power bank valued at $60, totaling $280. Police further allege that while armed with a knife, he committed an aggravated assault against the homeowner.

In addition, authorities say Jorgenson was found at Sunrise Scuba Tours on Avenida, Caye Caulker, in possession of 0.4 grams of crack cocaine. He was also allegedly found around 3:30 a.m. with a 6.5-inch kitchen knife with a brown handle.

Initially, Jorgenson pleaded guilty to all charges. However, he later told the court that while he admitted to having the crack cocaine, he had no knowledge of the burglary and claimed the knife was a fishing tool used to clean fish. He also stated that while in custody, he had only been informed of two charges and only learned of the additional allegations in court.

Based on his explanation, the Magistrate rejected his guilty pleas for the burglary and assault charges and accepted only his guilty plea for possession of controlled drugs. He was fined $270 plus a $5 cost of court, payable by June 30, 2026.

The prosecution strongly objected to bail, citing concerns that Jorgenson could interfere with the virtual complainant, especially given the small community of Caye Caulker, and pointing to video evidence allegedly linking him to the offenses.

Despite the objections, the Magistrate granted bail in the sum of $2,000 plus one surety. Bail conditions include that Jorgenson must not return to Caye Caulker while the matter is before the court, must report weekly to the Mahogany Police Station, stay at least 100 yards away from the complainant, and avoid contact with prosecution witnesses.

However, Jorgenson was unable to meet bail and was remanded to the Belize Central Prison. He is scheduled to return to court on June 26, 2026, in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court.
