By Aaron Humes: A Caye Caulker man seeking to buy an air conditioner on Facebook Marketplace was left out in the cold after the would-be seller took his money and failed to send the item.
According to police, the complainant found the 12,000 BTU air conditioner for sale on Facebook Marketplace for $771 on Monday afternoon around 4:30. He communicated with the page holder and was given a bank account number to which he deposited the funds on Tuesday morning, January 27. Later in the afternoon, around 1 p.m. he made checks with the water taxi companies in Caye Caulker but found that neither had his item shipped to them. He then contacted the seller who promised to call the water taxi office but up to the time of making the report, he hasn’t gotten the air conditioner nor his money back.
Police are investigating.
