Caye Caulker man granted bail in burglary case but sent back to prison unable to meet conditions

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Caye Caulker resident remains behind bars after being granted bail he was unable to meet in relation to a burglary charge.

Jerry Nicholas appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 of the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where he requested bail after spending months on remand. There was no objection from the prosecution, and the court granted bail with conditions.

Nicholas was offered bail in the sum of $3,000 plus two sureties of $1,500 each. As part of his bail conditions, he must not interfere with the virtual complainant or any prosecution witnesses, must remain at least 100 feet away from the complainant, and is required to report to the Caye Caulker Police Station every Friday starting the following week. He is also required to attend all court adjournments.

Despite the bail being granted, Nicholas was unable to meet the conditions and was remanded back to the Belize Central Prison.

The court confirmed that Nicholas has received full disclosure in the matter, and his trial is scheduled to commence on July 14, 2026, in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court.
