By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Belize Police Department will be closing the route of the Carnival Road March from Memorial Park on Marine Parade to the corner between St. John’s College and the University of the West Indies on Princess Margaret Drive, beyond the Marion Jones Sports Complex, at 11:00 am on Saturday morning.

Earlier on Saturday morning, the Police Department set up checkpoints at both ends of the route, advising people that they cannot park on either side and only allowing access to motorists who have business to conduct along the route on Marine Parade, Barrack Road, and Princess Margaret Drive.

The Carnival Road March starts at 1:00 pm at Memorial Park and heads to the Marion Jones Sports Complex. The Police said no vehicles will be allowed to park along the entire route, which will remain closed until the parade is over. Police will also have their personnel deployed along the route and will block access to it at 11:00 am.

People needing to access places like the Princess Hotel and Casino and the Belize Municipal Airport will have to do so from the streets leading to Marine Parade, Barrack Road, and Princess Margaret Drive, but will not be allowed access to then route except in emergencies. Be prepared to walk to your destination.

Those who normally park along the route will have to do so on the streets leading to the route.

Marine Parade, Barrack Road, and Princess Margaret Drive, which is one long stretch, will not be open until after the Carnival Road March later on Saturday evening.
