By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Carlton Robinson clinched the top spot in the Gons Racing Club’s Cycling Race on Thursday morning, December 5, 2024.
The 20-mile race began at 6:00 am at Leslie’s Imports in Belize City, proceeded up the George Price Highway to Mile 8, continued onto John Smith Road, and reached the Philip Goldson International Airport Roundabout before making the return journey.
Robinson, who marked the pace with an impressive solo finish, was followed by Byron Pope, who secured second place. Jaylen Briceño not only finished third overall but also claimed the first Junior spot, demonstrating exceptional talent among younger competitors.
The final standings for the top finishers were as follows:
- Carlton Robinson – 1st place
- Byron Pope – 2nd place
- Jaylen Briceño – 3rd place overall, 1st Junior
- Goran Gabourel – 4th place
- Eric Trapp – 5th place
- Tyrique Flowers – 6th place
- Dwayne Wade – 7th place overall, 1st B rider
- Kenroy ‘Smokes’ Gladden – 8th place
The Gons Racing Thursday Cycling Race continues to be a thrilling event for cycling enthusiasts, providing a platform for both seasoned cyclists and emerging talent to compete and showcase their skills.
During this month, the Gons races serve as preparation for the upcoming Krem’s New Year’s Day Cycling Classic.
