By Aaron Humes: A late night shooting left 61-year-old Carlos Enrique Avelar dead on Thursday evening.
The incident occurred around 8:15 PM on Coney Drive, where police responded to reports of gunfire. Avelar, a Belizean mason from the Belama area, was walking in the vicinity of Body 2000 gym when he was approached by two men on a motorcycle. According to initial police investigations, one of the suspects drew a firearm and fired multiple shots at Avelar, striking him before fleeing the scene towards Sunrise Avenue.
Police are appealing to the public for any information regarding the identity of the suspects, as they continue their investigation into this heinous crime. Community members are urged to come forward with any details that may assist in bringing justice for Carlos Enrique Avelar and his family.
