By Zoila Palma: The Caribbean Women in Leadership (CIWIL) Belize National Chapter has joined the nation in mourning the deaths of Angelita Magaña, her six-year-old son Tishan Godoy, and 17-year-old daughter Shadia Magaña, who were killed in a horrific act of violence in San Felipe Village, Orange Walk District.

In a statement issued on October 22, 2025, CIWIL Belize condemned the tragedy and reaffirmed its stance against all forms of violence toward women and children.

The organization emphasized that “true leadership cannot thrive where fear and violence persist” and urged authorities and communities to take decisive, coordinated action to prevent further loss of life.

CIWIL Belize outlined three key priorities in its call to action: protection, through urgent reforms in restraining orders and emergency response systems; accountability, demanding stronger institutional responses from law enforcement, the judiciary, and social services; and solidarity, encouraging communities, educators, and faith leaders to unite against gender-based violence.

The organization reaffirmed its commitment to building a Belize where “women and children live free from violence, in safety, dignity, and equality,” calling the issue not only one of justice, but of humanity and national integrity.
