By Zoila Palma: Recently, the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC) hosted a signing ceremony with Belize Sugar Industries Ltd. (BSI) and the Sugar Industry Research and Development Institute (SIRDI) under the BAC-SuF Project.
This signing signals a critical milestone in ensuring the long-term continuity and sustainability of the sugar industry.
“By signing these contracts, our partners commit to developing nurseries that will help in securing clean seeds for the critical replanting of 10,000 acres of sugarcane. Having access to diverse, high-quality, and disease-resistant seeds is vital to boosting yields and protecting our farmers’ livelihoods against climate threats,” CCCCC said.
The centre said that with the incredible support of project partners, the future of sugar is looking incredibly sweet for Belize.
