Caribbean and Atlantic cook up tropical threats; Belizeans urged to prepare

By Horace Palacio: Belizeans are urged to keep an eye on the weather as two tropical disturbances are stirring up the Atlantic basin.

The first is a broad area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the western Caribbean Sea. While it’s too soon to tell if this system will develop into a full-blown storm, there’s a chance it could strengthen as it drifts toward the northwestern Caribbean or the Gulf of Mexico.

Meanwhile, things are heating up in the eastern Atlantic. A tropical wave near the Cabo Verde Islands is showing signs of getting organized and could become a tropical depression or storm within the next few days. This system is predicted to move westward towards the Caribbean, and those in the eastern Caribbean islands should be on alert.

A third tropical wave in the Atlantic is also being monitored, but it’s not showing much potential for development just yet.

While it’s still early in the hurricane season, it’s never too soon to be prepared. Belizeans are advised to review their hurricane plans and stay informed about the latest weather updates.
