By Zoila Palma: On February 16, 2026, the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI) presented a tablet to the School Feeding Program of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and New Growth Industries, which falls under the National Food and Nutrition Security Commission (NFNSC).
The coordinator of the Commission is Emilio Montero.
CARDI used the tablet to gather baseline information on how small farmers and fishers contribute to school feeding programs in several Caribbean Islands including Belize.
The survey was completed for the baseline data and so FAO, the supporting agency, requested that the tablet be used now to support record keeping and data collection for the school feeding program.
Present at the signing of the MoU was Minister of State Alex Balona, CARDI country representative Omaira Avila Rostant, NFNSC Coordinator Emilio Montero and Senior Adviser Hugh O’Brien.
