By Breaking Belize News Staff: Four months after pleading guilty to attempted robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm, 20-year-old Cameron Sheldon Myles of Ladyville returned to court on Monday to take full responsibility for his role in a failed armed robbery at Eric’s Supermarket last December.
Myles, who is currently serving a 2-year, 7-month prison sentence for the earlier charges, appeared before the Senior Magistrate in Court #3, where he changed his plea from not guilty to guilty on three additional counts of aggravated assault with a firearm. These charges stem from his threatening actions against the shop owner, a store employee and a customer, the latter being the person who shot Myles during the attempted robbery, ending the ordeal before any money was stolen.
According to reports, on December 18, 2024, Myles and another unidentified man stormed the supermarket armed with a gun. Myles pointed the weapon at individuals inside, but was shot by a customer who was standing behind the counter. Myles was arrested and later charged.
Myles’ attorney Ian Gray asked the court to order that the sentences for the aggravated assault charges run concurrently with his existing sentence, emphasizing that all charges arose from the same incident. Myles also presented a character witness — his mother, Tricia Thompson — who appealed for leniency. She said her son is remorseful, engaged in rehabilitation programs while in prison, and is committed to changing his life.
The court has deferred sentencing for the three aggravated assault charges until May 29, 2025, to fully consider the submissions made on Myles’ behalf.
Myles remains on remand until sentencing.
