Calvin Thurton leads Gwen Liz win 2-0 win over Wesley College in CSSSA Football Competition Boys Finals leg 1

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Calvin Thurton was the hero scoring a brace to lead top seeded Gwen Lizarraga High School to a 2-0 victory over second seeded Wesley College in the first leg of the Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Boys Football Competition Finals on Wednesday at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City.

Wesley held up Gwen Liz to a scoreless game for just over an hour but Thurton got through and scored the go-ahead goal in the 66^th and then put the game away in the 79^th.

The match finished just as it had in the first round, with 2-nil score in favor of Gwen Liz.

The top seeded Gwen Liz now go into the second leg on Saturday with a clear advantage over Wesley.

Earlier, the Gwen Liz also won 2-0 over Wesley in the first Girls Final. They too will meet again on Saturday to determine the Central championship.

In the Third Place home and away games on Wednesday, St Catherine Academy took the lead with a 3-1 win over Pallotti High School in the Girls Competition. Sadie Vernon High School also took a 3-1 over St John’s College in the Boys Competition.

The return matches in both the Third Place games and the Finals will be played on Saturday
