By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Calcutta Bulls beat Afghani 5-1 on Sunday at the Carolina Football Field, securing the top spot in the Corozal 1st Division Football Championship Regular Season with an impressive 21 points. Their dominant performance has earned them the top rank in the semifinals, where they will face the United Ballers, who finished fourth with 10 points.
In the other Week 7 matches, Sarteneja defeated San Andres 2-0, Libertadores edged out Copperbank 2-1, and United Ballers pounded Club Atlético Tempestad 10-2.
With those scores, Sarteneja finished second with 15 points, Libertadores third with 13, and United Ballers fourth with 10 points, edging out San Andres by goal average. The 10-2 demolition of Club Atlético Tempestad helped them secure the fourth spot.
Clifton Sanker also became the tournament’s top scorer by netting an amazing six goals in that game, finishing the regular season with ten goals.
The semifinals are set for the coming weekend with knockout matches featuring the Calcutta Bulls against United Ballers and Sarteneja FC against Libertadores.
