Caesar Ridge FC won the Mayor’s Cup Marathon on Sunday, January 25, 2025
By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Caesar Ridge FC are the new BDFA Mayor’s Cup Marathon champions after a commanding 3–0 victory over Kelly Street in the final, held under the Belize District Football Association and organized by national team veteran and community football advocate Ian Gaynair.
Goals from Lawny Leslie, Raheem Herbert, and Keyon Zuniga sealed the win for Caesar Ridge, who looked sharp and focused throughout the one-day tournament. The marathon, held on Sunday, January 4 at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City, featured 11 competing teams — all eager to kick off the 2026 football calendar with purpose.
The event was backed by key community sponsors, with the $1,000 first prize donated by Belize City Mayor Bernard Wagner and the $500 second-place prize contributed by Caribbean Paper Mill (Softy Paper Products). Gaynair, who continues to champion grassroots football, said the tournament was designed to energize the district’s football scene and spotlight emerging talent.
With the marathon title secured, Caesar Ridge FC now turn their attention to the BDFA 2026 Tournament — a demanding campaign where the stakes are higher and the competition deeper.
“We have our sights set on the bigger prize,” the club declared after lifting the trophy, signaling their intent to chase district dominance and beyond.
