Cabinet plans Legal Aid revamp for new fiscal year

By Aaron Humes: Cabinet has given its approval to bring the Legal Aid Act, No. 15 of 2023, into force and to establish the Legal Aid Commission in the new fiscal year.

The Government seeks to make legal aid readily available to certified persons of small or moderate economic means, while enabling the cost of providing legal aid to be defrayed by the National Assembly.

Legal Aid has regional offices, but limited resources to handle its increasing caseload.
