By Zoila Palma: During cabinet’s meeting earlier this week, cabinet approved a one-year moratorium on the hunting and capturing of three wildlife species as part of efforts to strengthen conservation and address declining animal populations across the country.
The approved measures is aimed at enhancing wildlife enforcement in Belize.
The temporary ban will apply to the white-lipped peccary, yellow-headed Amazon parrot, and brown brocket deer.
This includes repealing and replacing the existing Wildlife Protection Act of 1981 with a new Wildlife Conservation and Management Bill.
